Lindsey May is an architect, educator, and researcher based in Washington, DC. Her work examines the inherited design conventions, existing conditions, and modes of architectural practice that shape architecture.

Through design, research, writing, teaching, and exhibition-making, May looks closely at aspects of architecture that are often overlooked because they are so familiar: existing buildings, materials, typologies, modes of representation, and professional practices become subjects of investigation. May works to make these given conditions visible, examining the knowledge and assumptions embedded within them and exploring how they might be reconsidered through architectural practice.

Her current work includes Molding et al., an ongoing investigation of architectural molding and its spatial, material, and historical possibilities; research on artificial intelligence and architectural design processes; teaching and research on adaptive reuse; and the re-design of existing buildings through her practice, Studio Mayd.

May is an Associate Dean, Clinical Associate Professor, and Director of the Kibel Gallery at the University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation. She is the founder and principal of Studio Mayd, an architecture and design practice in Washington, DC. Her work has been recognized with the Architectural League Prize and the AIA|DC Architect + Educator Award. Her writing and work have appeared in Bloomberg CityLab, Architizer, and publications of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) and the Architectural Research Centers Consortium (ARCC).
